Latvia adopted amendments to the Law On Maternity and Hospital Insurance
On Thursday, May 14, the Sejm (Parliament) of Latvia on final reading adopted amendments to the Law On Maternity and Hospital Insurance, extending the possibility to get payment of sick leave due to COVID-19 until December 31, 2020. According to the State Social Insurance Agency (VSAA), in April the average number of paid sick days in the country due to COVID-19 was 10.9, calculated at 36 euros per day. So far, residents of Latvia have been paid 329,625 euros. The Ministry of Health of Latvia informed that 833 people received health benefits COVID-19 the country in April, 9,082 days were paid. According to the news agency, an emergency regime was introduced in Latvia from March 13 to May 12 due to the coronavirus pandemic. On May 7, the emergency regime in the country was extended until June 9 with a number of easing.
